  1. In a little hut near a fort about ninety years ago lived an old man called James Gillan in the townland of Silverhill in the parish of Ahamlish in the county of Sligo. He had a habit of going out late at night. This night he went out at half-past twelve as he had a little job to do which he had forgotten. He had to pass by the fort. As he was passing by he heard music and the movement of feet as if they were keeping time with the music, he stood outside listening. He saw a row of men coming towards him. He went to walk away and at once they told him to halt and asked him why he was out so late: he was not able to speak and they said to him that if he were out as late again that he would be taken away and never get back again.
