  1. A man named John Burns, who died about six years ago used to visit the Cliffoney district about twice each year.
    He collected empty bottles from the people of the district and in return gave them needles. He got his supply of needles in Sligo.
    He spent one night in each townland and so popular was he that the people vied with each other as to who would give him lodging for the night.
    He had the news of the county on his tongue and was an expert storyteller.
