- A woman named Mrs John Mc Cannon, who lives in the townland of Clonkeen, Parish of Ahamlish, Barony of Carbury, Co Sligo has the cure of 'the sprain'.
First of all she gets a thin piece of string about two feet long. Then she says some prayers and gives the piece of string to the messenger who comes for it on behalf of the injured person.
The messenger on his return journey cannot go into any house until he reaches the home of the person who sent him for the cure. The person for whom the cure is made sprinkles holy water on the string and then ties it around the injured part.
