  1. About thirty years ago a man named Johnny Currid lived in the townland of Creevymore, Parish of Ahamlish, Barony of Carbury, Co Sligo.
He was a very swift runner. In the same townland another great runner named James Harte lived.
Currid challenged Harte to run him. A day was appointed and they met in a field belonging to the local landlord Mr Ashley in Carnduff, Parish of Ahamlish.
The length of the run was a mile and a quarter, and this distance was covered by going round the field a certain number of times.
A large crowd gathered to witness the contest and cheer on their favourite.
Currid won the race and was carried on the shoulders of the supporters.
