  1. Long ago it was believed that the old women were witches.
    One day a man met a boy and told him that he would give him five shillings for a pair of brogues, if he would get him a hare.
    The boy told him to go home and to come back again in an hour's time.
    The boy went home and told his Granny to turn himself into a hare. She did so and the man came back at the time mentioned the hare was hidden in a bunch of grass. The man had two dogs with him, one of which could kill a witch. The two dogs chased the hare and the boy began to shout and cry "Run Granny for the dear bought brogues."
