- 1. The cure for rheumatism long ago was:- The people had "sweating-houses" with flagged floors on which fires used to be lighted, and when the flags were enough heated, water used to be thrown on them. This caused a great vapour into which the people went, and after a fixed time they had to jump into a pool of cold water.(continues on next page)
