  1. Long ago the people used to get a stick, and and tie a piece of twine round an apple. Then they used to tie a candle so that when the players tried to get a bit of the apple the candle-grease used to fall on them - so that it was very difficult for them to bite the apple.

  2. Long ago the people used to get a tub of water, and put an apple into it and having tied the hands of the children behind their backs let the children catch the apple
