  1. The landlord of these townlands in olden times was Mr Bateman. All his tenants were very poor people living in miserable cabins. The landlord took into his head to evict them all in order to make room for bigger holdings. He did so and burned their cabins.
    Among the people that were evicted was one Burke a very old man who died soon afterwards. The landlord Bateman used to go shooting daily on the mountain.
    One evening on his return journey he met the ghost of old Burke at a place called Loirbrack and he was looking very cross.
    It is said Bateman went to bed that night and took ill and died and it was thought that it was old Burke did for him if he had any power to do so in revenge for his eviction.
