    Not so many years ago, a poor man lived in this parish whose name was Tom Doolin. His clothes were tattered and worn and he was wondering where he would get an old suit of clothes. One day he happened to meet a man on the road whose name was Mr Edmund Stritch. He often composed poetry. So Tom told him his story. Now said he learn this poem off by heart and then go to Colonel Crosbie who owned Ballyheigue Castle and ask an old suit of clothes of him in this way.
    Pray noble gentleman, a moment's attention,
    Listen awhile and the truth I will mention,
    My clothes are all tattered and torn asunder,
    From working all day and sure tis no wonder
    And every evening when my thin porridge is cooling
    Tis you will have the praises and blessings of Tom Doolin
