  1. The most famous man who won fame for himself recently in the field of activity was Michael Quinlan, Ballinbranig, Ballyduff.
He ran from Ardfert to Tralee, a distance of about six miles, and gave two rounds of the sportsfield in record time. The next strong man was John McCarthy of Ardagh.
He lifted a pig about three hundred weight, and put her into a horse's rail.
John Mahony of Feans was also noted for his strength. He used lift stones in Gunsborough quarry which lay there untouched or unable to be raised by several others.
The next man for quick walking was John Connor of Causeway. He travels daily a distance of about twenty miles approximately.
Thomas Sullivan, Bushmount, Ballyduff, was another famous man, who won fame for himself by jumping a height of about six feet.
