    there for two weeks, then it was taken up to drop and brought home in a cart. It was spread out in a meadow that was recently cut, the same women came along and spread it out very thin in rows and it was left there to bleach. It was gathered up dry, a fine day, and all kind of small house was made with some iron bars overhead. The flax was put up on the bars and there was a large fire made under-neath and it was scattered around.
    A handy old woman was in attendance to keep it turned until the outer coating of fibre was dried
