    We had Ballyduff and famed Lixnaw
    Most glorious to be seen
    And many the stormy moon light night
    We drilled in Rattos Plains
    And along to the Ferry Budge
    And back to Kilmore again
    If you were to see those 44
    Assembling by the tide
    With their guns upon their shoulders
    And their swords down by their sides
    They were drilled by Captain Nolan
    In the lovely Shannon side
    The captain is a tall young man
    His age is scarce 19
    Although he is young his heart is too
    And he dearly loves the green
    And every night he drills his boys
    At the hour of half past four
    But now he is far from his native home
    And the sand-hills of Kilmore
