    would hire him.
    First he went to work and gathered rods and built a house. He put his mother in one corner, an ass in the other, and a goat in the third. Then Jack put the house on his shoulders and set off for Gawley. As soon as he landed he got work. He was first told to thrash hundred stacks of oats. He went to the wood and cut a tree and made a flail. Then he put the oats into the barn and thrashed it in a few hours. His master was proud of him.
    That night he sent him to mind the mill. It was supposed to be a haunted place. So at midnight, as usual the Ghost appeared and made a great noise "Come along Jack", he said "no" said Jack
