  1. There were two men in Rinbane once who wanted to go to town. Their names were Mike Corcoran and Michael Gannon. This Michael Gannon was very hard and he did not like to part with anything or lose anything. Michael Gannon got the loan of an ass and cart from Mike Corcoran and he told him to give the ass oats at the town.
Michael Gannon said he would and went to town and the owner of the ass went with him. Michael Gannon bought a 1/4 stone of oats for the ass, put it in a bucket for him and gave it to him to eat. The ass put his head in the bucket and spilt all the oats out on the street. "Ah! Bloomy" says Gannon "what'll I do now? The ass has all the oats spilt". "Well, do you know what you'll do" says Mike Corcoran "go into the shop and buy a nib".
