    One song very popular in this parish "The Hill of Knocknashee" came from his pen and another one he wrote while away entitled "New Year's Day" and started as follows:-
    Cheer up boys with heart and hand
    and think on New Years Day
    We'll raise the flag of freedom with our banners bright and gay
    As we marched to Skreen and wore the green
    And cheered on every brae to give freedom to Old Ireland and a Happy New Years Day.
