  1. There is a holy well in Achonry. It is St Finnein’s well. People go to it on the 15th. August. It is named after the great St. Finnein of Clonard. The parson of Achonry drew water from the well to boil potatoes. Achronry
    He put it on the fire but it never boiled. There was two trout in the well and they only appear on the 15th August. Up to the late years they never appeared. It is said that St. Finnein was going to a well to draw water and it was a long way off. On his way he fell and his hand went down in the ground. Immediately water sprang up and he teamed a bucket-ful from it. He tied a piece of string to a stick beside the well so that he would know it again. The next day he went to it and found two trout in the well. There were many cures performed at this well.
