  1. In the townland of Ballyara, in the parish of Cloonacool in the barony of Leyney are the remains of an old castle. In 1397 O'Connor Don erected a castle in the place after defeating the O'Connors Sligo the MacDonaghs and the O'Dowds. It is not known how it has been derelict. There is a cemetery now in the place. It is thought that the townland is called after it "Baile Uí Eadra" in Irish.
