    Doocastle. (An Evening Glance)
    Around the trees that clusteringly
    Surround its form towering there,
In stern splendour grim and fair
    DooCastle's ancient wall I see.
How proud it looks, how bright it seems,
    That monument of bygone days.
As brilliantly the sun's sweet rays,
Around if fall in silent streams.
I think (while gleams their golden light
    Upon its turrets glitteringly)
Of the lov'd days when liberty
Around it shone as calm and bright.
When o'er its battlements did wave
    Green Erin's banner radiantly
And in its halls the true and free
With joy did greet their chieftain brave.
O lov'd old castle! gone away
Are those bright days, and too have flown
