  1. In 1867 Miss Kivlehan remembers seeing "Erin's Hope" land in Sligo Bay to help the Fenians. Spies went round and the government was ready to arrest them. Some men went out in a boat to tell them of it. They turned and went round to Waterford. When they landed the pirates spied. They were all arrested, taken to Sligo and tried. Two of them were set free, General Halpin and Fitzgibbons who were American citizens on condition that they should never enter the country again.
