    his coachman to halt when they reached him. From the appearance of the man on the road Hellas believed he was a Fenian & probably wanted to test the password on him.
    When they reached the man the coachman pulled up - Hellas opened the window of his coach, put out his head & said
    "What are you up to Mike."
    The man looked at him sharply & replied, without the least hesitation,
    "I am up to shit (pardon me).
    Will you have a lick."
    Hellas closed the window & ordered his coachman to drive on.
    Before they reached Longford Hellas begged the coachman not to mention to a living soul the incident or the answer he got, & that he would reward him handsomely.
