  1. Miss Flynn's mother began her churning as usual one morning. No matter how long she churned she cold get no butter. The milk in the churn became frothy & had a very disagreeable smell. At this time the taking of butter was supposed to be very common & James Flynn the woman's husband, when he heard what had happened, said, "Say nothing about this because if you do we will be only the talk of the country." Nothing was said -
    The next churning was made & the same thing happened. That evening James Flynn's mother did the milking herself. When she took the milk home she placed the vessel containing it in a large pot of boiling water. She had her churn ready, thoroughly
