    with the big cake under his arm. He travelled till mid-day & coming to a well he sat down to eat. He opened the parcel containing the cake & was about to begin when a little red dog came up to him & asked him for a bit - He answered saying "It is small enough for myself" & told him to clear off. Then the little dog asked him what he was going to make & he replied "A cradle"- mockingly. "Well", said the dog "A cradle you'll make & a cradle you'll have." Then he left him & after the boy spending a week in the wood he returned with a cradle.
    Seeing that the eldest boy had failed the second boy said he would try his luck -He, when leaving, - was offered his choice of cakes too, with his mothers' curse or blessing & like the eldest he chose the large one with the curse. He set off & at mid-day he arrived at the same well & sat
