    They chatted by the fireside for hours. The old lady made a cup of tea for him. No sooner had he drunk the tea than he fell asleep. Next morning when he woke he found himself not in the warm cottage but under a hawthorn hedge, perished with the cold. He set off home and told his brother what had happened. He told him he would be afraid to go out after dark again. His brother laughed at him and said he would never stop till he himself found out what made the people afraid. Then he set out on his travels. etc etc etc. (The remaining part of the story is the same as that on page 23 and following pages).
