  1. In our house there are still some old emblems since the 1916 rebellion, these are a whistle, a rifle bullet, and also a military coat which belonged to my uncle. This was worn when the Republican Army was in power here. Each man had a certain number of stripes on his sleeve according to his rank, on this one there are three white stripes because Uncle Matt was Commandant of the Army.
The whistle belonged to Uncle Tom; it is about two inches long. It is made of steel, on it is marked 1916. Uncle Tom has also a spoon which he used when he was a prisoner in Belfast Jail. The bullet also belonged to Uncle Tom.
The colour of the military coat is green, with leather buttons. There is also a brooch made of silver which he made on the mountain of Glenree while he and his friends were "on the Run" during the Civil War.
