  1. A Song

The shades of evening around me hover

    I
The shades of evening around me hover
A wild young rover from Erin's Isle
On this rugged shore as the breaker's roar
In fond thoughts of home I will rest awhile.
    II
Some scenes remind me of those left behind me
My home in Kerry where bright streamlets flow
And Banna strand so fair and grand
My heart is with thee where in I go
    III
Where the mermaid sings the west wind brings
Vast piles of seaweed from the mighty deep
And the peasent boy's, though the night wind sighs
Cart it away while their masters sleep
    IIII
And Kerry's hills and her rippling hills
Will in my memory for ever lie
And the Black rock and the Barrow
    Though my purse is narrow
I hope to see you before I die
