  1. A story a story I'm going to relate concerning Molly
Molly Laoghaire whose fortune was great
One fine Summer's evening as she roamed all alone
To a green shady bower from a shower she did go
    II
Young Jimmy went fowling with his dog and his gun
Young Jimmy remained fowling until evening came on
Her apron being about her and he took her for a swan
And he shot his own darling at the settling of the sun
    VI
He looked all around him but no one could he see
His hands they fell feeble and his eyes could not see
He took her in his arms and he found she was dead
And a fountain of tears from his eyes he did shed
    IIII
Young Jimmy went home with his dog and his gun
Saying "father dearest father this deed I have done
Her apron being about her and I took her for a swan
And I shot Molly Laoghaire at the setting of the sun
    V
His father ran out and his head turned grey
Saying Jimmy my dear Jimmy do not run away
Stop in your country till your trial it comes on
For you'll neither be shot or transported for the shooting of a swan
