  1. Long ago there lived a brave man in Killorglin and his name was Tom Hurley. The people round about used to call him Tom Hurley the giant. This man had great courage and strength. He used to lift a bag of meal off the ground and put it on his back. He could carry a twenty gallon tank on his back also. This man used to make bottles for the people and he used to make crosses of glass and put them into the bottles. All the people used to wonder at this and he would not let anyone see how he did it. Many people tried to do it but they failed. This man never went to school and he pretended he was a fool. His people believed him and
