  1. Lord Ormathwaite was the owner of Derrevrin and the surrounding country. He was a very cruel man. His agents name was George Sandes.
    On the "Gale Day" he would notice his tenants about their rent and they would all have to go to Listowel whether it would be wet or dry. They used to have to stay outside the door and they would be called in one by one. Often they were outside the door from eight o'clock in the morning until four in the evening in the wet, and cold, and hunger. In the evening he would say to them that he could not attend to them all and they would have to go home again and come again the next day.
