In the locality in which I live all the people grow the potato-crop. My father sets potatoes each year. He sets about an acre of potatoes each year. One year he had on by half-an-acre under potatoes and the next year he increased this by another half-acre. My father prepares the ground. The first thing he does is to spread sand on the garden. He leaves it so for a month until he sand soaks down through the land. Then he gets a plough and the ploughs the ground twice. Then he leaves the ground so for a month and then he harrow sit and this makes the ground, fine and soft. He ploughs it again and after that he makes the drills.
