  1. One day O'Connor of Carrigafoyle bought an ear-ring in Paris and swore that if he could not pay for it in a year he would forfeit his estate of Iraghticonnor.
    When he arrived home, his friends were jealous of the gold ear-ring. He forgot to pay for it within a year and it never dawned upon him till a year and a day had passed . He then forfeited his estate but he retained his castle.
    One day while he was sitting in his Castle, his page told him of a plan to get back his estate. While the page was talking, O'Connor cut off his ear and threw it into the depth of the sea, and then he
