- The night of the eleventh of November is called St Martin's night. On that night the rich people kill a pig or a lamb. Those who can't afford that kill a goose, a hen or a cock. They get a piece of tow or linen and dip it in the blood. They let the rest of the blood go waste. Then they put that bit of cloth to keep and if any body in the house got a pain in their side to put that bit of cloth up to it would cure it.
