  1. Patrick Roche better known as Patts was a great strong man, who lived in Rahavanig in the Ballybunion Parish. He was born on about 1845 and lived a bachelor all his life he died about 1936. He was known to be a very honest man always earned his living by the sweat of his brow and it is said he hardly knew his own strength. At one he was herding cattle for a farmer, one day a cow was crossing a fence into a garden, and when Patts saw her he ran to stop her but the cow was half over the fence. He grabbed her tail and gave such a pull that he pulled it off. Some time later the farmer asked how the cow lost her tail, he told what had happened but maintained that it was rotten.

  2. Great runners are now very scarce. There are very few if any since the time of the Fenians when it was said that Caílte Mac Rónan could run as fast as a star
