    1. When the distant hills are looking nigh it is the sign of rain.
    2. When the sea is rough it is the sign of bad weather.
    3. When the smoke ascends straight it is the sign of fine weather.
    4. The wild geese will go South before it rains and they go North when we are going to have frost.
    5. When the sun goes down golden in the evening the following day is usually fine.
    6. Before a storm the cat always sharpens his nails.
    7. When the cat turns his back to the fire it is the sign of rain.
    8. The cocks are crowing and the goats are going and maybe the day will clear.
