  1. Long ago there lived here a man by the mane of McCarty. He had a big castle on the edge of the sea. The ruins are still to be seen on the castle green. On the entrance to the men's strand there is a huge hole which is called the "cat's hole". The boys around caught every cat they met. One evening they caught a cat and tied a cord to his tail and let him into the hole. He went astray so he never again came back that is why they call it the cat's hole.
