  1. In this district there were several kinds of bread made such as wheaten bread, potato-cake, and stampy,
    The wheaten-bread was made from wheat. They grew the wheat locally and ground it with a quern.
    People remember the querns being in use in the district. The quern was made of two flat circular stones in one of them there was a hole in the middle, and a handle in the other. They got the wheat and put a layer of it between the stones twisted the handle and in this way they ground the wheat.
    When it was ground it was put through a sieve and it was fit for use.
