- Long ago there lived in the townland of Doon a man named Harty. He had a farm of land near the Shannon. Every morning Harty used to find his grass corn eaten. One night however Harty determined to watch and find out what was eating his corn. In the middle of the night he saw a band of horses grazing on it but they soon disappeared. He was told if he threw a clod of earth at them they would stay. He did this and he struck one a beautiful mare and she followed him home and he kept her. People say that the breed of this mare is in the district ever since.
