  1. (If young) To cure a calf with an inwardly pain. If a young calf had an inwardly pain and whoever would see the calf first (if a man) he should strike the calf nine times with his cap. (If a woman) she should strike him nine times with her apron.
    A cure for a stye.
    If a person had a stye in his eye, and if he pinched it with a gooseberry thorn it would immediately be cured.
