    houses, just a hole up on the roof at the cross wall and something like a wooden box fixed on top of the hole for the smoke. Some had boards fixed down a piece, as we now have stones this was called a (clap-loo[?]). Then no crook across as is seen in the country houses now. A long thick chain hung from the hole at the top and into the holes of the chain small crooks were placed for hanging neither etc. This was called a crane crook.
