Because I spied about the bog
    And raised his rifle instantly
    To send me to eternity
And only for my loving wife
He then and there would take my life
But God had sent her just in time
For to prevent that horrid crime.
She is here this day and can tell you
That every word I say is true
    And further he can’t disguise
He had no licence from the excise
A gun to carry or to use.
To transport him yous can’t refuse
That only chance me to save
Or keep me from an early grave.

    My pen refuses I declare!
    Their wicked purpose to achieve
They did their best you may believe.
But all their efforts were in vain
    They were regarded with distain
The young Mc Cabe they would set free
Kavanagh was bound to the peace
His face was dyed with dark disgrace
The news ran quickly up down
The cheers did shake the little town.
