- (continued from previous page)to America and they left the house in possession of a caretaker named John Dwyer an ex R.I.C. man. He being mechanically inclined directed his attention to the chimney that wouldn't function. He had pipes installed which were supposed to direct a current of air on the chimney. Then he extended the "breast" so that it might catch as much of the smoke as possible, but despite all his plans and artifices no smoke passed out of that chimney.Dwyer used to say that he often heard weird noises at night upstairs, as if some body were keeping vigil over the old millstone. Dwyer left and the Donohoes once more came back to residence. They hadn't long returned when they fell out with their uncle Patrick Sargand. A lawsuit followed, which found it's way to the High Courts. Donohoe and his sisters had to leave a second time for America, after selling the place to a Miss Mary Farrelly, Cavan.Miss Farrelly's first act after entering into possession was to get the millstone removed and its place was filled in with concrete.
