  1. There is a fort situated in Leganomer about which many tales can be told. It is of a circular shape and covers less than a rood of ground with a white-thorn bush growing in the centre. Formerly this bush grew in the form of a cross but at present the cross-like shape has disappeared and the bush itself seems to be fast decaying.
There are many strange stories told about this fort. In the beginning of the 18th century a man named John O'Neill lived in a house near the fort and with him lived his wife and his son, John, who was a full-grown boy. About this time his father and mother were constantly telling him to go and look for a wife as he was old enough to be long married. One night as John went out on his Ceilidhe and in passing by the fort he met a carriage drawn by two horses. The driver called out "Johnny O'Neill! Do you want a wife?" Johnny answered that he did. Just then a beautiful girl stepped out of the carriage and gave him her hand and both walked back to ONeill's house. He informed his fathe rand mother that he had got a wife. His mother used to say that there was no girl around half good enough for him but when she saw this one she was satisfied. The poor girl, however, could not tell her name.
