  1. Once upon a time there lived in the townland of Leckan a man, and his house was a station for card players.
Night after night they played until twelve and one oclock.
One night they were playing and it was nearer twelve than eleven o'clock. there was no sign of them quitting.
About one oclock the latch was taken off the door and another man came in.
After watching them for a while he asked would they have any objection to give him a hand. Of course no was the answer.
After playing a few hands the man next to the stranger let fall a card.
He stooped down to lift it and what did he see but the cloven foot of the devil. They all fell on the ground and some of them fainted and were hardly able to rise and go home.
This same incident happened in many country houses that card playing was going on in.
One night a boy was coming home from card playing. It was near three o'clock in the morning. He had the pack of cards in his pocket.
Suddenly he saw the man beside him. He bade him good-night.
