    In the year '65 its night well I remember
    Three miles from my home as I rambled away
    I did not intend to be long until back I'd return
    But now I must tell you I got a delay.
    II
    'Twas when I arrived at a place they call Corlough
    I thought I was known by the country men all
    But to my surprise I was highly mistaken
    For nobody knew me in the place at all.
    III
    I drew to a cabin that lay close to a clear river
    Where dwelt an old woman her name I don't know
    I cannot describe of her situation
    But the walls of her dwelling appeared to be low.

    When I entered the walls of this old woman's dwelling
    I said to myself 'I am now in the dark'.
    It was my desire to go to the fire
    To kindle my pipe but there wasn't a spark.

    Down came this old woman in her regimentals
