Although I'm far away in a distant land my heart still lingers far across the sea,
Through dear old Ireland my native sireland my spirits wander my friends to see.
While oft in childhood I roamed the wild wood by Black Waters Banks and by Bawn Mill,
For to view the scenes which my visions bound me around Ballinamore and sweet Clover Hill.
II
O'er log and mountain, o'er stream and fountain, while passing onwards I gaze and weep,
On Fenagh, Drumreilly, and Inch Island where friends relations and kind parents sleep,
Then drawing nearer with visions clearer as near to Aughnasheelin Church I stand.
And gaze around on the changed conditions since my boyhood days in my native land.

Old friends are scattered their homesteads shattered by ruthlessly tyrants who did them despoil,
But some are left to maintain her freedom and rights to live on their native land.
So have courage boy for the day is nearing when the snubs and shooneens and agents and all,
