- Some people believe that a treasure is buried in a field belonging to a man the name of Shanley situated in the downland of Strademott about a mile from the town of Ballinamore. It is believed that this land belonged to an older gentleman named Colonel O'Reilly. He was supposed to be very wealthy. He kept all his money in a dark room which was always locked and the key he kept around his neck.On his seat bed, he told one of his sons that he had this money buried in some part of his land. He said, he had buried it a long time as he was always afraid of robbers coming to steal it. Some time after the Colonel died, his son went to dig for the money. he was digging for hours but he could not find the money. At last he heard his father's voice saying 'stop digging' for no one shall ever find my money so it is supposed to be there this day.It is said that lights are often seen around the place and every moonlight night a man is seen riding on a horse. Anyone who attempt to lift this money is chased.(continues on next page)
