  1. The local fairs are held in Mohill, Drumshambo, Ballinamore and Ballyconnell.
    Some of the fairs are held in the towns and some of them are held in a field called a "green".
    Buyers often transact business in the country at farm houses. Fairs were held in such places as Bawnboy where they are not held now. There was not much cattle at these fairs, and then the buyers stopped coming to them.
    There are no local traditions of fairs being held on hills in this neighbourhood.
    The Ballinamore fair is held on the street some time ago it was held on the green.
    Toll is paid on cattle sold. A man stands at the "green" gate and collects six-pence a head on every beast that is sold.
    When animals are bought they are marked by a red or blue keel, or by clipping the hair at the side or by putting mud on the flank.
