  1. (continued from previous page)
His Lordship was so pleased with the ready wit and humour he found in Jack that he raised him to the highest place in his service and doubled his wages, and he dismissed the Informer. So in some time after, the informer fell sick and died and the following epithet was written over his grave.
    Stay Reader and Pause
    For here it's said
    It's under this stone
    The sly informer is laid
He studied not all his life
    His own misfortune wrought
    And his neighbours ills
    is what he chiefly sought.
    Now if heaven is pleased
    when sinners cease from sin
    Or hell is pleased
    when villains enter in
    Or earth is pleased
    when bodies they do crave
    We all are pleased
For now the rogue is in his grave.
