“You gallant sons of Ennis-Isle,”
Ardrum Hill the scene of a pitched-battle between the Catholics and Protestants took place near the town of Ballinamore in the year of 1826. The Protestants were celebrating the Boyne victory. Run-forced by the Police, Ardrum Hill then an Orange Stronghold of the planter stock, it is now a sports-field of the G.A.A. The following verses were composed.
SongYou gallant sons of Erins-Isle,
I hope you all draw near
And likewise pay attention to those few line you hear (?)
Concerning loyal Orangemen who once called out their cores
To hold their celebrations
In the town of Ballinamore
On the twelfth day of July in 1826
They said they would murder Romans and break the Crucifix
They marched in grand procession
Displaying flags and drums
But they had little notion.
