  1. There is a lough between the townlands of Killyfea Augharan and Annaghartry in the Parish of Aughavas in the Co Leitrim. It is locally known as Augharan Lough but is marked on the Ordnance map as "Fort Rough".
A man named Peter Kiernan or Mc Kiernan who lived in the townland of Annaghartry to the age of 80 years and died about 10 or 12 years ago told me the following story about 25 years ago.
In his youth this Peter Kiernan was very fond of fishing in this the above mentioned Lake or Lough.
One night he was fishing. Of a sudden the Rod was nearly swept out of his hand. He then pulled and pulled - at the same time walking backwards from the water's edge. After some time he got a huge eel about five or six feet long on the dry land. He was unable to carry the fish home. He dragged the fish after him as best he could, having to rest several times on the way. At last he pulled this huge fish into his dwelling house. The eel was still alive.
