  1. There was a man lived in Gorthlettera about 100 years called Shéimín Antony. He was a noted character, and could always get the better of everybody both poor and rich by acting the innocent all the time
He lived in the time of Lord Leitrim and often used to work on the Lord's estate. The lord had a great dog one time of which he was very fond. The dog got sick and wouldn't eat and was lik to die. One day the lord was telling his workmen about the dog and what he'd give if he were well again. Shéimín Antony was by and said:- "If you give me the dog for about 3 weeks me lord! I'll cure him for you." "Well if you do," says the lord, "I'll give you your land rent free for the next 3 years." So the next day the dog was sent over in a carriage to Shéimín Antonys and the lord arranged that meat, milk, and biscuits should be sent over every day. When Shéimín Antony got the dog he tied him to the leg of an old chest in the kitchen and for 3 weeks Sheimin Antony had a wonderful time eating all the dog's food.
